Another operator attempts to make a cursed address work.
If you haven't been past 1400 Nicollet Ave. in awhile, you probably haven't noticed that Great Sun is gone. The space has had quite a bit of turnover in the past few years, having recently operated as India House, and before that, New Delhi.

The new owners have replaced Great Sun's hit-or-miss buffet with a menu of Chinese favorites. They're in the process of re-working the kitchen in order to debut two additional sushi and hibachi menus starting this Thursday.

Asian Taste

Hours: Mon.-Thurs., 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m.; Fri.-Sat. 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sun. noon-10:30 p.m.

This Food is GOOD. The prices are outstanding the portions are perfect and its *highlight* very authentic, genuine cookery. Try the Singapore noodle and you'll understand why many agree that city is responsible for some of the best street food in the world!  Asian Taste is a smart, stream-lined update for eat street options, what asian taste has down to a T, and in fact what is genuinely exciting about good, quick-style asian dining are the factors of fresh and a smart purveyance of the medium. Ive been disappointed by Pings, in comparison repeatedly due to a lackluster, staid environment. My last experience was dreadful, where the sesame chicken was fried until it was tough, it seemed, plain and then tossed in sauce? The actual meat was textured like rubber bands, stringy and tough. Disappointing because its such a simple recipe to screw up and to such an extent, for a place that has ben there so long.

Asian Taste on the other hand had me wowed. The portion was smart. It was big but not too much. Good for family and groups of friends to share. And again, just to repeat, pitch perfect spicing, consistent cuts of everything, good, basic, fresh. Everything I need the local chinese place to be. Looking forward to trying some of their other menu items again!

Not ready to open is an understatement... ordered delivery and getting the order ordered took a while and they had to call me back because they still didn't get the address right.  When it arrived the order was incomplete... frustrating and the food wasn't worth going through it again.

I went in shortly after this place opened.  The wait person didn't know the menu and then ended up telling me that half of it (with sushi and like dishes) wasn't available.  To me they weren't ready to open.  The lack of a true website, despite what they show on their takeout menu, is more evidence.  Good restaurants do a few dry runs before they open their doors to the public.

"Great Sun's hit-or-miss buffet"?

More like "miss-or-miss".  Seriously, this was one of the WORST Asian buffets I had EVER seen/tasted.  I went there exactly once and swore I'd never return.BTW, why are people trying to open Asian restaurants across the street from the already firmly-established Ping's?Why not open an Outback across the street from Manny's?

I just want to say that I agree the service leaves something to be desired.  However, there food is amazing.  I really hope they manage to work out the kinks so we can have a decent sushi restaurant in loring park.

I would have to agree that the buffet itself was awful. However, if you were to try any of their other food that was prepared off of the menu it was some of the best BAR NONE in the twin cities. unfortunately it had such a bad rep from it's awful buffet food and had to close down the buffet just a few months ago. It was EMPTY on the nights I went... the bar still had great deals though and lots of fun music on friday nights. 2 for ones $7 on friday and a killer DJ. great times have been had there.
