Wilde Roast's new riverfront location: a first look

Wilde Roast new location.jpg
Wilde Roast's fab new patio
When the old location on East Hennepin Avenue closed its doors in late May, the Wilde Roast faithful knew that a river view was in their future, but they still had trouble waiting for it. Yesterday, their dreams came true, as on a glorious sunny day, the new spot opened. With several fresh menu items and a gorgeous, dark wood interior full of booths, high tops and comfy chairs, the neighborhood cafe saw tons of customers stop by for a quick bite, coffee, or a sidewalk table where they could watch the water roll by.

Here are some pics to sate your Wilde Roast appetite until you get the chance to stop by.

Of course the outside seating is a huge draw, with some tables under the awning and others out under the sun. But don't count out the roomy inside space. It's still got a fireside area with wingback chairs and beaded lamps, but now there are also a couple rows of booths, which allow for a slightly more intimate conversation, as well as spots perfect for the army of computer-folk who like the coffeeshop aspect of Wilde Roast. Oh yes, and there is a subtle homage to Oscar Wilde...

The logistics are being worked out, but there are now two registers at the counter for added efficiency, and the kitchen is in the back. There is still a private meeting room full of tables that boasts a great view. The place delightfully echoes the design of the old site, and the myriad guests we saw seemed pleased to have another choice for lunch on the riverfront. Plus, there is a huge selection of Italian-style gelato to your left as you enter (we liked the pink grapefruit), which is always a good thing.

Just a note to all, new Wilde Roast (as if the old one wasn't) is very anti-computer/studying and wait staff will harass you on end. Gentrification wins again.

Looks good, just off vacation and can't wait to visit!
