Salad Days can be yours
Pam Powell, an alum of Brenda Langton's Cafe Kardamena and owner of the Salad Girl Organic Dressings line, has a new cookbook out. Salad Days outlines a few salad-making basics--a useful guide to the various green types, plus tips on washing and storing produce, and stocking dressing ingredients--and then gets straight to the recipes, arranged by season.

The secret to many an excellent salad is an ingredient list that gets beyond the basic vegetable list, and Powell's selections incorporate all sorts of fruits, nuts, cheeses, beans, and meats. So if you're in a salad rut and need some inspiration, how about Nectarine and Nasturtium Salad, or Crab-stuffed Artichoke with Lemon Tarragon Dressing?

The Hot Dish has two copies of the book. Say why you like your favorite salad--either one you make at home or eat at a local restaurant--in the comments for a chance to win. (Leave your email address, too, it won't be visible.)

Salad Days may be purchased at one of these retailers or signed at one of the following events:

Love the Farmers' Market Salad at Black Sheep Pizza. Never know what you're gonna get. Recently had one with romain, roasted corn, green onions, a little red onion, lime juice...... Very fresh and light.

Favorite salad is made with butter lettuce, red grapes, cherry tomatoes, craisins, crumbled gorgonzola, and homemade dressing - fruity and delicious, paired with a baguette for a simple summer meal! Love it because it's super easy, yummy, and quick! Why else?

My favorite salad is tabbouleh, with lots of fresh parsley and good bulghur.  I'd love a cookbook to help me get more creative!

Favorite salad to eat out: Spoonriver's Duck Confit. So many wonderful textures and flavors contrasting and complimenting each other. The soft fatty duck tastes amazing with all the veggies on the plate.

Favorite salad to make: Spinach, steak, blue cheese, tomatoes with lemon-garlic dressing.

i like a lot of salads but my go to is always mixed greens with a berry vinaigrette, almonds/walnuts, berries and a little bit of goat cheese - and maybe some apple slices. YUM.

My favorite salad at home or in a restaurant would include garbanzo beans.  Why?  Because I can't get enough of them.  Garbanzo beans are my super food.
