Burger geeks and Celtic freaks will delight this week in food

Seduced by Burger Jones
Start the week as a "burger geek" at Burger Jones and end it awash in Irish brews at St. Paul's annual Irish Fest. What's not to like?

Start your week with the aptly named Burger and Beer Dinner for Beer Geeks at Burger Jones. A flight of Brooklyn Brewery Summer Ale, Pennant Ale, and Brown Ale will accompany the sliders of your choice (black and blue, mushroom Swiss, or bacon and cheese) and fries for just $25. Best of all, this dinner ends with a "surprise beer" to cap off the night. Space is limited, so book now at 612.746.0800.

It's time for another French Regional Wine Dinner at Salut, and this time Provence gets top billing. For reservations in Edina call 952.929.3764, and to book St. Paul call 651.917.2345.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's "Dinner with a Chef" series features popular local chef Lucia Watson tonight as she teaches students about 'August Seasonal Plates.' The class runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and costs $45 for members, $55 for nonmembers. To sign up call 952.443.1400

The festival runs 3-11 p.m. today, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.

Burgers galore!Being from Bandung, I still remember lining up for a burger every time our family went to Jakarta. But even if the burger revolution had started in Bandung, my Mom still would not have let me get away with lunch or dinner without rice. For many Indonesians, a real meal always involves rice — anything other than that is a snack. Burgers were the exception, and having a lunch without rice was a breakthrough for many.

Poland must be a week ahead. I didn't think the time difference was that large.
