Joan's in the Park to open next week in Highland Park
Two local restaurant veterans, Joan Schmitt and Susan Dunlop, whose resumes include Morton's the Steakhouse, Tria, and the Capital Grille, among others, plan to open Joan's in the Park next Wednesday, September 14, at 631 Snelling Avenue in St. Paul.

The former Grampa Tony's Pizzeria is upgrading into a more elegant eatery and wine bar, with menu offerings including classic steak and seafood items, plus chef Dunlop's more unique creations, such as Braised Radish Salad or Sweet Sausage and Roasted Red Pepper Flatbread. Schmitt will run the front of the house, and her children, as well as Dunlop's, all of whom are in the hospitality business, will be Joan's in the Park employees.
Better to check the place out sooner rather than later: During opening week, September 14-18, diners will receive a complimentary signature Hot Chocolate Cake with Izzy's Vanilla Ice Cream for the table.
