Larry Schultz organic eggs linked to salmonella

Organic eggs sicken six

​At least six people have been reported as falling ill with salmonella Enteritidis. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Minnesota Department of Health are investigating. Five of the six who were sickened reported eating Larry Schultz's organic eggs bought from area grocery stores or co-ops. The illnesses were reported between August 12 and September 24.

These are the eggs that were suspected:

The recalled eggs were distributed to restaurants, grocery stores, food wholesalers, and food service companies in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

They were packaged under brand names Lunds & Byerly's Organic, Kowalski's Organic, and Larry Schultz Organic Farm. The eggs were packed in bulk and in varying sizes of cartons (6, 12, and 18-egg containers).

The MNDA reminds consumers to cook eggs thoroughly before eating to destroy any Salmonella or other bacteria. Consumers who think they may have bought these eggs should return them to the store for a full refund.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, including children and the elderly. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. Anyone who believes they may have become ill with Salmonella should contact their health care provider.
