5-8 begins a month of cheesy promotions, including free and discounted burgers

Festivities began this morning with a 'Juicy Lucy Month' T-shirt giveaway. Up to 10 customers can sign their names on the back of the T-shirts, which are redeemable for one free Juicy Lucy per customer throughout the month.

Here is what else is in store in November.

A canned food drive will allow customers to trade nonperishable items in exchange for money off their final bill--$1 for one food item and $5 off for 10 items.

5-8 Club will also offer a limited-edition Thanksgiving Juicy Lucy featuring a turkey burger with cranberries throughout the month, with proceeds going to local charities, including the Community Emergency Assistance Program, the Junior League of St. Paul's "Backpack Buddies" program for John A. Johnson Elementary School, and the Minnehaha Food Shelf. 

"We wanted to do a bunch of different things for customers, and to give back to the community with a food drive and donating proceeds from the Thanksgiving Juicy Lucy sales," says Jill Skogheim, president of the 5-8 Club.

All three locations--Minneapolis, Maplewood and Champlin--will offer free Juicy Lucys to veterans with a valid U.S. military ID on Veterans Day, November 11.

5-8 Club's Champlin location will also host a Juicy Lucy eating contest on the 28th from 7 to -8 p.m. The first person to devour two Juicy Lucys, as determined by local celebrity judges M.A. Rosko and Shayne Wells, will win a free T-shirt. Preregistration is recommended.

Finally, three "Golden Lucys," or Juicy Lucys with golden toothpicks, will be prepared on November 30. Randomly selected winners who receive these Golden Lucys will win a prize, which includes one free burger a month per year or $50 in cash.
