Is the best ice cream shop on the move?

​Jeff Sommers and Lara Hammel have put in an offer on a vacant lot, where it's being reported that they will build an ice cream factory and new headquarters for their award winning Izzy's ice cream. With lines stretching out the door and a modest manufacturing area next door, the St. Paul shop could no doubt use a little extra space.

But where is the proposed factory set to be built?


The vacant lot for the proposed build is at 1100 Second Street South in Minneapolis, across from the Gold Medal Park, near the Guthrie. Izzy's Ice Cream in (gasp) Minneapolis? What of the St. Small charm? No word yet on what will become of the Marshall Avenue location, and whether they plan to keep it open if plans move ahead.

Minneapolis city officials are reviewing their offer.
