With your social calendar filling up fast and more potlucks than you can shake a stick at, December is the month when you ask the question "What can I bring?" more often than "What time is it?" If you're running low on ideas, consider taking a class with one of the instructors at Local D'Lish. The store has curated a wonderful series of cooking classes for winter, with a focus on simple preparations of local and seasonal foods. The Hot Dish talked with the store's manager, Kate Shuknecht, to get the lowdown.

Which classes are you most excited about this season?
We've definitely got some great classes coming up, full of holiday cheer. I'm super excited to be here for this Friday's class "Foodie Gifts." It will be taught by one of my favorite local foods enthusiasts, Edith Cameron
of the blog Cake and Edith. Then Sunday the 11th is "Aebleskiver Fun." I'm excited about this as well. More than kid friendly, it's kid encouraged. It will be taught by Chad Gillard
, one of the founders/owners of Aunt Elsie's Aebleskiver. He always does a fun mix of telling the story of their wonderful mix and getting really creative with what ingredients you can add to tasty round treats.
Any good ones that are trying to avoid the holiday weight gain?
Yes. December 14th is the "Quick and Healthy" class. This one is especially popular as we are always in a hurry and fast approaching the time where we have to enact some post-holiday food-related resolutions. This will be taught by Amanda Paa. Her blog
is great. Another great class is December 16th, "Vegetarian 101," taught by Kate Moore
. Kate is one of our core instructors, so you'll see her on the schedule quite a bit.
Sunday classes are from 1 to 4 and Wednesday/Friday classes are from 6 to 9. The cost is $70 per person, per class, and kids ages 8 to 14 are just $15 with a paid adult. Get the full list of classes and reserve your space at the Local D'Lish website.
