Devil's Advocate, a new downtown restaurant, now has a name and a chef

• Erik no longer owns the Ugly Mug, he disapeared like a fart in the wind.

• As a matter of fact he is the best chef Porter and Frye has ever employed.. not 1 dissatisfied guest when Matt helmed the kitchen in the 3 years I've served them!!!

• Wasn't it Matthew's cooking that pretty much killed Porter and Frye? They had really good food before he took the helm of the kitchen.

• More of the same then......

• I'm looking forward to it as it's in my neighborhood.  Unfortunately, I've been the Ugly Mug a few times and been pretty disappointed.  It has some interesting beers, but something has been off about the atmosphere and the clientele, and I've not been impressed with the food. Hopefully this place will be better.

• You forgot the space also had another failure: the Calhoun Grill in '08. That's three failed restaurants since Hell's Kitchen left (of which The Inn was the shame to lose), I wonder how the new owners plan to make the fourth time the charm. What helped Hell's Kitchen was the hotel/convention traffic that helpes them until a critical mass of locals started going. The Devil's Advocate might have to start dropping bribes with local concierges to start getting recommendations (and hotel guests) their way --or be compelling enough for people to want to go out of their way (and for some reason that location seems out of the way for people).
