Replacement for ill-fated Il Gatto space announced

Bad kitty being replaced by...?
That kind of prime real estate couldn't sit vacant for long. After the public stumble for the Parasole Group, when It closed Il Gatto, whispers quickly began that a chain restaurant would take over the space.  Today on her blog for MSP Magazine, Stephanie March revealed who will be moving into that space.  Let's just say the constant refrain that Uptown is looking more suburban by the moment isn't going to die down any time soon.

So, who is it?

Primebar is moving in, March reports.  A part of the Restaurants-America, it is indeed a chain.  Locations already include Chicago, Dallas, Wesely Chapel (in Florida) and Scottsdale.  Menu items at the Chicago location include crowd-pleasers like Caesar salad, mac and cheese, steaks, tacos, and quesadillas, with the occasional twist like wasabi or sriracha. Sounds unique ... just like everybody else.

I'm with everyone else on the fact that they should have never gotten rid of Figlios. I didn't mind some of what Il Gatto had to offer though. I could really go for there not being another junk chain restaurant there.

My buddy calls that intersection "Eden Prairie East", and it's easy to see why. What a joke. Figlios had one of the best happy hours in uptown, then Parasole had to screw that up with their abortion of a replacement. If Parasole was smart, they would have renamed the spot Figlios and brought back a similar menu to the old version. What a pity.

If you want a good laugh, take a look at Primebar's menu from the Chicago location:http://restaurants-america.com... (click the 'Food & Drink' PDF link at the bottom)

OH WOW, SZECHWAN SHRIMP STIR FRY FOR $17! Fantastic! Maybe I'll get the STEAK QUESADILLAS for $11 as an appetizer to share with my date before she orders the SESAME AHI TUNA for $20. How generic. If I want a po' boy for $15 I'll walk across the street and go to Stella's or get an even better (and cheaper) version at Tin Fish during the summer. And if I want a fried egg burger I'll walk 20 minutes and grab the Morning Glory burger at the Bulldog. I can already tell Primebar is going to suck.

More of the same old same.  Nothing changes around here - either the same investors or the same chains giving the same old crap food.  We should support local family owned places.

i was really hoping for pizza shooters, shrimp poppers or extreme fajitas....i suppose this sounds close enough.

The point here is that ever since Uptown had it's monied 'renaissance' in the 1980s, the local haven't been able or willing to support more than 3 or 4 locally owned bars/clubs.  Williams is a pale, douchy, cheapened TGIF-ish shadow of it's former self.......

Great! I was just looking for a place with pretzel sticks, $10 chips, bbq pulled pork sandwiches, mac & cheese, fish & chips, bacon cheeseburgers and buffalo chicken strips.  Or, I could go to any of the dozens of restaurants already serving these items for less.  Once the buzz wears off on the suburbanites, this place will follow the path of il gatto.

What an unexciting announcement.  There's already a crappy chain based on Chicago up the street.  And there's plenty of beer pouring from the taps in the area.  What can this place possibly present to me, an Uptown resident, that does not already exist?  Nothing.  Sunday happy hour at Figlios is sorely missed.  Can't wait to see what crappy chain they open in the location once home to the Independent.

Why oh why can't we just get Figlios back?!

Was really hoping that another Parasole restaurant would take over, but this looks good. Excited!

Boo! Looks uninspired and boring. How about we bring something cool to Uptown instead?! Disappointing.

Forgive what I'm sure many will roll their eyes at, but, I liked the food at Figlio's. Why couldn't they just remodel the joint?
