Modern Cafe serves vintage liquor Thursdays

Modern Cafe pours 100-year-old booze, without irony

​If your experience with Modern Cafe begins and ends with hearty pot roast and beer, now you can get a flash from the past on Vintage Pour Thursdays, sampling a cache of liquors dating as far back as the late 1800s.

The Vintage Pour of the Day prices vary each week, as do the liquors. The vintage drink selected last Thursday was a winter margarita, made with vintage anise liqueur. Other selections in the stash include Queen Anne Scotch, Old Fitzgerald Whiskey, Old Gentry Gin, and vintage liqueurs in apricot, anise, and cacao.

In addition to the Vintage Pour, Modern Cafe also has a new late-night menu and cocktail hour. The window is tight--only an hour long on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (from 9 to 10 p.m.) and 9 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays--but the discounts are decent: half off wine by the glass, half off bottled beer, and a $2 discount on cocktails.

New additions to the late-night menu include a duck and pistachio terrine, crostini, pan-roasted brussel sprouts, and a cheeseburger with bacon jam.
