|We would traverse the ends of the earth for you, sweet lobster roll|
Minneapolis's own Smack Shack, the unlikely Midwestern lobster truck, is officially loved from coast to coast. Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives
filmed there recently, Bon Appetit raved
about them, and now they've decided it's time to expand. While the Shack has been operating out of the kitchen at the 1029 Bar, as well as hosting a few rollicking lobster boils, they've decided that the time has come for a space of their own.
We have all the details on the new space and the rocking and rolling bash they plan to throw for their April 9 television debut.
The Monday air date coincides with the Twins opener. Josh Thoma and crew plan to put up a tent and throw an all-out bash for the viewing party at the 1029 Bar. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. with the full Smack Shack menu available as well as drink specials. The show airs at 9 p.m..
Thoma and partner Kevin Fitzgerald have already begun construction on the new restaurant, which will be near Sixth and Washington in the North Loop. The space will seat 115 with an additional 40 in a mezzanine. The space is an old warehouse, so the build-out will be completely new construction. Expect to see a raw bar and rollback walls, garage-door style, for the warmer months. The menu will include all of our favorites, plus much more.
They plan to continue their partnership with the 1029 Bar, and the truck will also continue to patrol the downtown Minneapolis streets (cue a collective sigh of relief). While no lobster boils have been planned yet, we can also still expect to celebrate summer by tying on a plastic bib and ripping into a crustacean.
It's shaping up to be a tasty summer season.
