George & the Dragon opens today

After six months of construction and repairs, Lynnhurst neighborhood pub George and the Dragon will open this afternoon.
The restaurant, at the former site of Blackbird Cafe, is owned and run by Fred Navarro, a longtime manager of both Tucci Bennuch and Twin City Grille. Navarro's goal is to make George & the Dragon a "public house," in the style of traditional English pubs that were used as gathering places for the community, which makes sense given that Navarro lives just blocks from the restaurant.
As far as the food and drink, G&D's menu also takes a cue from traditional English pubs. Here's what you can expect to be served for lunch and dinner:
Navarro says local and organic ingredients will be used whenever possible on plates of fish and chips, specialty burgers, homemade pork sausage with 2 Gingers whiskey-soaked oats that get transformed into a battered banger, an Asian-inspired braised pork shoulder, and ale-braised short ribs, among others.
It will also have 10 beers on tap and more in bottles, for those hoping to make this joint their new watering hole.
For now, G&D will open at 11 for lunch and close at 10 Monday through Thursday, staying open until 11 on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant does plan to be open for Sunday brunch eventually, but that date is yet to be determined.
