Golden Tummy: A new food truck debuts

Cheap Chinese food hits the streets
Thanks to my eagle-eyed friend, we saw a new food truck out on Marquette this week: a sliver of bright yellow peeking out from behind the another truck. Turns out this was the first day of business for Nancy Yang and her crew at the new Golden Tummy. The jolly Buddha seems to say, "Hello! You will be full."

We surveyed the menu and had a first taste.

The options are familiar Chinese dishes like General Tso's, Hoisin wings, chicken teriyaki, and a fried noodle that looked like lo mein. They also have cream cheese wontons and egg rolls. We sampled the dumplings, a lightly fried potsticker that's a lot of eats for only $2. They came with soy sauce for dunking and tasted much like the kind found in the grocer's freezer aisle. Next time we'll have to get the wings. Is it just me or is there a dearth of food trucks serving wings?

Yang told us that business had been a little hairy while they experienced their first rush, but good. She said they aren't operational on Facebook or Twitter just yet, but that's coming soon. For now they'll be in downtown Minneapolis, but have their St. Paul permit and hope to hit the near east soon.

I know you take a gamble anytime you go for the breaded chicken option but, in this case... WHAT CHICKEN? The sauce was okay minus the hint of cough syrup flavor. Maybe I shouldve tried a different option.

I will not be returning.

I’m an asian food goer, tried'em all and believe me there’s a difference between chinese food and GOOD chinese food…tried golden tummys general tso with fried noodles and this is def categorized in the GOOD food – especially given the mobility aspect.  Free meal or not I am definitely going back!

I tried Golden Tumm today. I personally thought the spicy hoisin wings w/fried rice was delicious. The wings could have used a bit more spice but overall I enjoyed them. If you are expecting Little Szechuan or some other upscale chinese restaurant on wheels you will be disappointed of course.

I wish there was a food truck that sold hard boiled eggs wrapped in bacon wrapped in collard greens wrapped in crispy chicken skin, and some cold onion water garnished with mosquito larvae picked from the waters of lake minnetonka to wash it down. I wish the proprietor of said food truck was both sexually and ethnically ambiguous and played soundtracks from bollywood soap operas. Jesus, foodies! $2 potstickers are cheap and good. Not everyfood truck is wolfgang puck on wheels. Foodies are getting as annoying as those darn hipsters....

"The options are familiar Chinese dishes like General Tso's, Hoisin wings, chicken teriyaki, and a fried noodle that looked like lo mein....They came with soy sauce for dunking and tasted much like the kind found in the grocer's freezer aisle."  Those seem like a pretty negative comments to me...am I to conclude that you didn't like this food truck or it didn't measure up to the others?

No doubt. It sounds like a pretty generic Chinese truck. Do they have an angle they are working on/towards, or Golden Tummy basically a mobile LeAnn Chin?

My Friends, dare I ask you to give Golden Tummy a personal review?  Please come by and mention this article for a free meal tasting [theoko & idrivefast].  While your honesty is disheartening as a new business owner, this is definitley a learning experience and feedback is the core of our growth.  Try me;)
