psycho suzi patio.jpg
Crazy for Psycho Suzi's patio
Once again it's the season when Minnesotans flock to restaurant patios and rooftops to enjoy the weather. And while food is critical in patio dining, at this time of year a refreshing drink and relaxed conversation can assume just as much importance. We took a look at the best spots in both Minneapolis and St. Paul that combined a great patio with a vibrant bar scene. The attributes that landed a restaurant on this list included the view, the vibe, and a restaurant's happy hour food and drink specials. Here's our list of the top 5 patio and rooftops bars on both sides of the river.

The St. Paul list is strong and what I would have selected for the most part, but this Minneapolis list is shockingly unresearched!

Urban Eatery is a piece of concrete sidewalk with uncomfortable seating and a view of the TRAFFIC along the lake. Even Tryg's is better.

Stella's is so packed with people that can't walk straight. While across the street the Cafeteria has much better use of its outdoor space, plus it evening sun and less wind gusts!

What about Brits? Or Jax Cafe? Heidi's on Hennepin in Northeast? Along St. Anthony Main, like Aster Cafe or Wilde Roast? Or venture into South Minneapolis for a neighborhood joint and find what the locals dig.

I'd completely agree, Maureen.  I'd rather go to any of the Minneapolis places you mention than the ones in the article.  Although, is Jax's patio part of the bar, or is it considered dining room?

I know you can eat out on the patio, but I'm not certain if it's limited to the bar menu or if you can get the full menu. However, according to their website, happy hour specials are available in both the bar AND patio, which is not always the norm for patios. I think that's a nice perk.
