We stopped by for happy hour at Muddy Waters recently. Here's our verdict:

Venue: The new (and vastly improved) Muddy Waters in the Lyn-Lake region of Uptown boasts a beautiful new bar, restaurant, and cafe--a perfect arena for post-work happy hour or late-night snacking. The bar offers a modern wood and brick aesthetic, which is both homey and comfortable, and the outdoor patio is a nice little hideaway that manages to keep you mostly sheltered from the hustle and bustle of busy Lyndale Avenue just outside its gate.

In addition to its selection of beer and wine specials, Muddy Waters offers a host of well-prepared cocktails that will definitely help to add a little oomph to any end-of-day celebration.

Muddy Waters' fish tacos are some of the best in the cities
On the happy hour menu, check out the Muddy Burger. Topped with chicken-fried bacon, fried onions, barbecue sauce, and blue cheese, it's the kind of artery-clogging device that will help you forget about your worldly woes. If you're in for a late-night visit, the fish tacos are a good way to go. Deep-fried in a light Brooklyn Lager batter and served with a slaw drizzled with a touch of crema, it's among the better fish tacos in the Twin Cities. We also checked out the bacon, egg, and cheese dog--a true tube steak marvel.

Verdict: Muddy Waters has a happy hour that's worthy of a visit. A welcoming and comfortable decor with several great drink options and a list of bargain-priced food makes the new Muddy Waters an instant Uptown classic. One thing we might like to see: a few of those great cocktails added to their happy hour list.

Wow- cool. When I lived on Lyndale years ago, Muddy Waters was a coffee shop. I used to stop there for a latte on my way to work every morning. When did they become a bar?

Agreed. Completely lame on Muddy Waters part. And lets real, that hour will actually keep me from going there most of the time.
