Food fests, beer dinners, and walking tours this Week in Food
This Week in Food will take you all over the metro, from a food fest in Blaine to a wine tasting in Cannon Falls, so get out to parts unknown (to you) and start eating.
Summit beer dinner at Barrio to begin the week
Sure it's last minute, but it's Summit and Barrio! There are still seats left at Cocina del Barrio's Summit beer dinner, which boasts five courses all paired with various Summit brews. What are you signing up for? Diver scallop ceviche with Summit Pilsener, Compart Family Farms pork tenderlion with Unchained: Dunkel Weizen, and chocolate tres leches with toasted hazelnuts and cherries with Summit Oatmeal Stout (to name a few). The cost is $55, and you can register for the dinner, which begins at 6:30 p.m., by visiting the Barrio website.
Feel like a bonehead when it comes to wine? Then get thee to New Vintage, a wine club for folks in their 20s and 30s who want to learn about this mysterious beverage. You'll taste four Italian wines and learn how to identify each varietal's unique aroma and characteristics and, since the club meets at Park Square Theatre, you get to see a scene from their current production -- Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor. You'll also enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the theater, nab appetizers provided by La Belle Vie, and meet the people who make the performances happen. Things kick off at 6 p.m. and the cost is just $20.
It's the second annual Summer Food Fest at Aquatore Park in Blaine from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., so hustle north with your friends and family to enjoy food from more than 30 local restaurants in addition to music, face painting, inflatables, and even clowns. Clowns! Proceeds from the event go to three nonprofits (Free2B!, Toys for Joy, and the MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce) so all that noshing isn't just for your gut. Prepurchase tickets for $25 from the MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce at 763.783.3553 or $35 the day of the event. Note that if you bring a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Joy you receive a free soda.
Friday is the perfect day to hit up Foodies on Foot's Savor the Flavor Tour, which cruises around the culinary haven that is Stillwater sampling specialties ranging from artisan cheeses and crusty breads to handmade chocolates and local brews. This three-hour stroll tackles the best of Stillwater one bite at a time. Today's tour runs 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and costs $60. For reservations click here.
Wine tasting and free tunes at Cannon River Winery
Take your Sunday to chill-out extremes at Cannon River Winery, which offers free live music (today it's Andrew Walesch performing favorites by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin) from 2 to 5 p.m. and the chance to sample flights of wine at the same time, courtesy of the knowledgeable staff.
