Saturday is a big day for beer festivals
Saturday is a big day for beer fests. In the Twin Cities the Beer Dabbler returns for the fourth annual Highland Fest event in St. Paul. For those up north or headed up north there's the first ever All Pints North festival in Duluth, sponsored by the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild. Tickets are still available for both events. Whichever you choose, there will be plenty of beer and fun to be had.

Fourth Annual Beer Dabbler Highland Fest

The Beer Dabbler Festival has become a summer staple for St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood. This year's festival will showcase the beers of over 50 local, regional, and national breweries, including some special releases just for the fest. The Lord Dabbler Cup will be awarded to the crowd favorite at the end of the day. Last year's winner, Minneapolis's own Big Wood Brewery, will make a special brew for the Beer Dabbler's Oak Barrel.

The Highland Fest Homebrew Competition will make its return. This is a BJCP/AHA-sanctioned competition. Anyone can enter, but the purchase of a festival ticket is required. If you want to brush up your beer knowledge, the Science Museum of Minnesota is presenting in the education tent. The entertainment will be provided by Little Man, the Japhies, Jonny James and the Hall of Fames, and Apollo Cobra. And of course there will be food trucks.

Beer Dabbler Highland Fest happens on Saturday at Hillcrest Park on Ford Parkway in the Highland Park Neighborhood of St. Paul. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Beer will flow from 1 to 5 p.m. You must be 21 to enter and show a valid ID. It's an outdoor event, so bring your sunscreen, or maybe an umbrella; it will happen rain or shine. Highland Fest advance tickets are $30. Tickets are $40 at the door.

All Pints North Festival

The Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild always puts on a good show. This year it's heading north for the first time with the All Pints North Summer Brew Fest in Duluth. This fest celebrates Minnesota brewed beer crafted by the 30 breweries and brewpubs in the Minnesota Craft Brewer's Guild. They will be joined by a few select regional and national craft brands. If you want to learn more about Minnesota's burgeoning craft beer scene and talk to the brewers who are making it happen, this is the place to be.

Of course, it's not all beer. Musical entertainment will be provided by Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, Farewell Milwaukee, and Black Eyed Snakes. Beer education comes from Midwest Supplies, the Better Beer Society, Minnesota Beer Activists, Barley's Angels, and A Perfect Pint. You can satisfy your hunger and maintain a good base for all that beer with food from Pizza Luce, Green Mill, and Duluth Grill.

The All Pints North festival takes place on Saturday at the Bayfront Festival Park, 700 W. Railroad St. in Duluth. The festival goes from 3 to 7 p.m. All Pints North tickets are still available online. They are $30 and $40 at the door. Designated driver tickets will set you back $10.

I'm there.  These events should really consider giving the D.D.'s a free pass.  They still make money off the food.  Bars should also provide free soda pops to D.D.  2.50 to refill a fountain drink?  I brought four people here who spent well over $200.
