Summit Backyard Bash is Saturday

Summit celebrates 26 years of making beer
Last year Summit Brewing Company celebrated 25 years of beer with a blowout in the brewery's backyard. This year they turn 26. Seems like a good excuse to throw another party. And party is just what the folks at Summit plan to do. This year's Summit Backyard Bash happens Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the brewery in St. Paul. And just like last year, the proceeds will benefit the Minnesota Music Coalition, a nonprofit service organization dedicated to supporting Minnesota's independent music community.

New to the party this year will be a special cask beer area out back behind the brewery's cellaring area. Special tappings of cask versions of Summit's brews will happen throughout the day, and they will be poured by the brewers themselves. Summit brewer Damian McConn is the area's expert on cask-conditioned ales, so you won't want to pass these up. The tapping schedule is as follows:

11 a.m.: Oatmeal Stout with coffee, EPA with Sovereign hops, Saga with Cascade hops, and Pilsener Kellerbier
1 p.m.: Oatmeal Stout with vanilla, EPA with Rakau hops, Saga with Cascade & Chinook hops, and Oktoberfest Kellerbier
3 p.m.: "Black Forest" Oatmeal Stout, EPA with Glacier hops, Saga with Centennial hops, and Pilsener Kellerbier
5 p.m.: Oatmeal Stout with Brett C, EPA with Boadicea, Saga with Citra, and Oktoberfest Kellerbier

It's not a beer festival without music and food. Masters of ceremonies Mark Wheat and Jill Riley from the Current will host the music stage, featuring live performances by Doomtree, Now Now, Halloween, Alaska, Heartbeats, and Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps. Hotpants DJs will be spinning Rare Soul, Deep Funk vinyl between sets

Food will be available for purchase from Ngon Bistro, Bennett's Chop and Railhouse, Little Charlie's, Barrio Tacos, Pizza Luce, Blue Plate Restaurants, Dixie's on Grand, Black Forest Inn, and the Original Kettle Corn.

Parking near the brewery is extremely limited. It's recommended that you take public transit. Summit also has free shuttle buses going from three locations: Bennett's on West Seventh, Shamrocks on West Seventh, and Tiffany Sports Lounge in Highland Park.

The event takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $14 in advance and $20 on the day of. Advance tickets are still available at Tempo Tickets. The Summit Brewery is at 910 Montreal Circle, St. Paul. Be sure to bring an ID; this is a 21+ event.
