Longtime Lyndale mainstay El Meson, Closes Their Doors.

Longtime Lyndale mainstay El Meson is closing its doors. The announcement was made this morning on the homepage of its website.

El Meson was the recipient of the City Pages 2011 Best Tapas award. It is known not only for their tapas, but also for its paellas and sangrias.

In a statement on their website, owners Erin Ungerman and chef Hector Ruiz wrote:

"I write this with a heavy heart. Sadly, we have made the very difficult descion to close our doors at El Meson. We appreciate all of your support over the years and hope to see you at Cafe Ena.

Erin Ungerman & Hector Ruiz"

Cafe Ena is at 4601 Grand Ave. S. in Minneapolis.

huh, I wonder why they closed.?..would it be because they're so drowned in debt with the IRS and therefore aren't able to maintain the place nor pay their employees?

There's a story at SouthwestMinneapolis.Patch.com that says they closed because they've been fighting with the landlord about repairs and improvements for a couple years, and it's too distracting and time-consuming. Apparently though, they've already had a couple of inquiries from landlords with available space asking if they'd like to re-open there, so they may be back.

You must be confusing this restaurant with someplace else. I've taken people ranging in age from 8 to 67 there, and they all enjoyed it.

That sucks complete and utter ass! When owners of a good (and beloved) restaurant decide it's time to close up shop, I always wonder why they don't open the opportunity for someone else to buy it first...before leaving their customers and fans in the gutter.
