|Now serving brunch in Longfellow|
In addition to its famous baked French fries and fabulous frozen custard, Mosaic Cafe in Longfellow will now add Sunday brunch service for the late-rising weekend crowd.
Since July, the cafe has been serving weekday breakfast and grab-and-go items from its bakery case, but the new brunch menu is fuller and a bit fancier.
Here's a sneak peek of what's on the menu and the updated Sunday hours.
Like its other meals, brunch looks like it will still be a casual affair, but Mosaic seems to be putting some extra effort into the special new items. Chef and kitchen manager Harlan Williams is doing a handful of breakfast sandwiches, including a Reuben-inspired one with an over-easy egg, a breakfast burrito, and a sandwich made with wild roasted salmon. In the sweets category, they're doing Bourbon-spiked pain perdu and Johnnycake waffles made with cornmeal. There's also a turkey hash and a weekly-changing soft egg scramble served with simple green salad and toast.
Looking for more of a coffee and pastries type start to your day? Mosaic's baked goods are worth seeking out. There are whoopie pies, homemade nutter butters, and cinnamon rolls, and they do an especially good job with gluten-free items like mini sour cream and pecan coffee cakes with rich caramel sauce.
Mosaic's new Sunday hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m., which is good news if you like to sleep in on the weekends. Several lunchy type items are also available, including burgers, salads, and the tasty east-meets-west bahn meatloaf sandwich, a Vietnamese take on a Midwestern classic.
