Tom Pham facing felony charges; disavows ownership in Azia

Is Thom Pham really out of the Twin Cities restaurant scene?
Soon after we heard that restaurateur Thom Pham's Wonderous Azian Kitchen had closed, news is now out that he is facing felony charges for allegedly writing bad checks to A-Z Restaurant Equipment out of Princeton, Minnesota. When questioned by the Star Tribune about the checks and the upcoming Azian Market Bar & Restaurant, Pham downplayed the troubles.

In Mille Lacs County court, Pham stands accused of writing over $30,000 in bad checks. When he failed to appear, an arrest warrant was issued.

Pham told the Star Tribune that he is hopeful the legal issues will be worked out soon. He is now handling his own books, he said; before they had been under the care of bookkeepers.

And while the restaurant world was looking forward to Pham's reopening of his most successful restaurant to date, Azia, at the corner of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, he also told the Star Tribune that the restaurant is no longer under his ownership because he has sold it to his original Azia business partner. "I'm going to help with the concept," he said, "but no, I'm not the owner."

Same thing happened at Temple. Something must be gained after this, otherwise long term business just isn't in the cards.

thom is a wonderful guy,he is always willing to give you a lift in his benz or his ford king ranch pick-up and he always picks up the tabs of his buddies and sends them the most expensive champagne, when he is out shopping for clothes he always the best and most expensive to help out our retailers and italian fashion houses, after he does all this for us why should he have to put up with silly things like rent, taxes, payrolls or meanie vendors who want money from him.

@jasondouglas Wow! That's interesting! I had no idea! I didn't really care for the restaurant anyway...

The guy ditched out on rent 2 places that I know of. It wasn't like he wasn't raking in the dough either. I feel no pity for this guy.

How about innocent until proven guilty. Thom is a really good guy. He clearly has his troubles right now but I hope things turn around for him.

They should talk to old employees about paychecks not going through from what I heard.
