Beek's Pizza: Feeling the heat

At about 6:00 p.m. on Thursday night, reports from area residents starting rolling in about a fire breaking out at a building near 54th and Lyndale Avenue South in the Diamond Lake neighborhood. According to Fire Marshal Perry Ebner, the exact source and cause of the fire are still unknown, reports the Star Tribune.

Beek's Pizza, a popular restaurant in the area that's been around since the 1960s, seems to have suffered the greatest damage, whereas the nearby animal hospital and counseling clinic are reporting that they were not affected by the fire.

Three people were inside the building when the fire started, but thankfully there were no fatalities and only one injury (a firefighter hurt in a fall) was reported as a result of the incident. Though the cold weather certainly didn't work to anyone's advantage, firefighters were able to contain the flames and eventually put the fire out completely. Further investigation will be conducted as to where and how the fire started.

Officials declared the entire building, which includes a company called Diamond Lake Rental, a total loss.

Beek's has a second location in St. Louis Park.

I heard only the walls were yeah...I would say that classifies as major damage... If it were a car, we would say it was totaled, but I guess buildings are different
