|Hawaii's biggest craft beer comes to Minnesota|
Kona Brewing Co., the largest craft brewery in Hawaii, is ending its four-city "liquid tour" of the Midwest tonight with a party at Psycho Suzi's Motor Lounge
in northeast Minneapolis. The Hawaiian-themed road tour was intended to promote the Kailua Kona-based brand and announce its arrival on the Midwestern market. Kona already distributes its product to 30 states and has now officially upped that count to 35 with the recent addition of Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota.
Here's more about the brand and the beers.
Founded in 1994, Kona has grown exponentially since its inception and shipped 220,000 barrels in 2012 alone. While much of its beer is still actually brewed in Hawaii, the company also has facilities they source from in Portland, Oregon, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire to accommodate its growing markets in the contiguous 48.
Kona will be distributing six beers in Minnesota (some are already available on tap at Psycho Suzi's, and more locations will be announced soon), including: Longboard Island Lager (its flagship, year-round beer), Fire Rock Pale Ale, Big Wave Golden Ale, Koko Brown (brewed with toasted coconut), Wailua Wheat (brewed with passion fruit), and Pipeline Porter.
