Two newcomers to the Twin Cities food truck scene have made the short list of nominees for a Rookie of the Year award from Mobile Cuisine
, a nationally focused (with occasional reports around the globe) blog dedicated to providing information to mobile restaurateurs and generally fueling America's current obsession with food trucks.
There are 18 finalists based in cities coast to coast, and among them are Messy Giuseppe, the St. Paul-based purveyor of Italian-style sloppy Joes, and Bloomy's Roast Beef, a roving kitchen serving up Philly cheese steaks (with a special beer cheese sauce) and French dip sandwiches.
Both trucks are family-run. Bloomy's is headed up by soon-to-be husband-and-wife duo Ryan Bloomstrom and Katie Johnson, and Messy G's is owned by brothers Mike and Rob Delmont, with a little help from other relatives.
As of this morning, close to 6,000 people have voted in the contest
and the leader, by a narrow margin, is Morristown, Tennessee's Crazy Goof Burgers. Bloomy's and Messy G's are still neck and neck somewhere in the middle with 159 and 146 votes respectively. Voting is open until January 18, so if you feel strongly about food you've had from either of these trucks, go ahead and make a bid for your favorite.
