Burgers, fries, and malts coming to Loring Park

Plans have been approved by the city of Minneapolis to begin the proposed construction of an American-style diner and malt shop near Nicollet and West 14th Street in Loring Park.

The website for the restaurant, simply called the Nicollet Diner, is already up and running, so you can preview the full menu. It looks like they will be serving classic breakfast, lunch, and dinner fare. Think flapjacks, tuna melts, open-faced meatloaf sandwiches, and sharing a shake with two straws. Depending on the flow of business, co-owner Sam Turner may keep the diner open and running 24/7, reports the Downtown Journal.

Though Turner and his partner's concept seems fully developed, the project and the build is still in its infancy. The current floor plan, designed by Chad Booth and Design Evolutions, includes classic diner counter seating with high stools as well as two and four-seater tables. An open kitchen, additional seating area near the rear of the building, and a sizable party room round out the initial layout.

If all goes according to plan, Turner hopes the diner will be open for business by late April or early May of this year.
