|Gorgeous scallops and shrimp at Acqua, coming soon to Forest Lake|
It's a little outside the downtown, Eat Street, and Lowertown haunts where we usually find ourselves out for dinner, but Acqua in White Bear Lake has gained a well-deserved following over the four short years it's been open, boasting chef fans like Susan Dunlop of Joan's in the Park.
Inspired by its waterfront setting, the Italian restaurant focuses on seafood dishes, from classics like lobster bisque and fried calamari to more modern ones like broiled lobster tail with truffle risotto and crab-crusted sea bass with chili buerre blanc.
So what's a restaurateur to do when they have one successful venture under their belt? Start building another one, which is exactly what the team behind Acqua is planning to do.
Construction of the new outpost of Acqua is already under way in Forest Lake in the spacious 7,100-square-foot former home of the Lake House Restaurant on Willow Point, reports the Forest Lake Times
Acqua Forest Lake will mirror the food and feel of the original location, as driven by co-owner and general manager Daron Close (who you may recognize from his time in the front of the house at Masa and Cafe Lurcat) and his fiance co-owner Nicole Whetzel. Chris Whalen, formerly of Campiello and Fhima, will serve as executive chef.
The new location is set to open the week of April 16, and the restaurant plans to be open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday and serve family-style Sunday brunch.
