Hello Pizza sends cheerful greetings
Ann Kim knows her way around a pizza pie. Now that her Pizzeria Lola has become a bit of a phenomenon, she has moved into a new location with a new concept. Say hello to Hello Pizza.
We stopped by for a first look at the new Linden Hills/Edina-area pizzeria.
Twin Cities ranked 6th best pizza town in the country by Market Watch
The new spot is located on the adorably named Sunnyside Road, in the former Franklin Street Bakery location. A modestly sized room has one communal table as well as a few two- and four-tops. Hello Pizza also took a cue from Lola and installed a photo booth.
Slice of the day, plus the Trinity
The pies here are different. These are New York-style, served whole or by the slice from stacked ovens. They also have salads and a few subs. We sampled the slice of the day, which was ricotta and meatballs: mild, fennel-studded sausage atop mozzarella and ricotta cheese. The Trinity is sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms. The little pepperonis curled up crispy.
Hello, big baller
The Korean cowboy sub was stuffed with sweet-hot Gojuchang-spiced meatballs and topped with a crisp, tart slaw in a fat, crisp baguette. It's a fork-and-knife sandwich and just about impossible to fit in an average-sized mouth.
The mixed greens salad, served in a big mixing bowl, was filled with fresh greens tossed with smoked onions (tastes like bacon, but they're onions!) blue cheese, and spicy pepitas in a light vinaigrette.
It's a sunny little neighborhood spot that was filled with diners from all walks of life, from businessmen to construction workers to parents with young kids.
