James Beard Award finalists announced

Fingers are crossed for our local tastemakers

The award finalists were announced today for America's top culinary honors. We'd like to extend our congratulations to our locals chefs who will be attending the awards ceremony this May in New York City. Our finalists are:

Television Program, on Location:
Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre Foods

Video, Webcast on location:
Daniel Klein and Mirra Fine for their online travel series the Perennial Plate

Outstanding Personality/Host:
Andrew Zimmern

MFK Fisher Distinguished Writer Award:
Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl for "The Cheese Artist," which appeared in Mpls/St. Paul magazine

Best Chef Midwest:
Michelle Gayer of the Salty Tart
Jack Riebel of Butcher & the Boar

Well-deserved and a long time coming for Jack Riebel. Sorry to see that Jamie Malone wasn't a finalist for Rising Star.
