Celebrate Valborgsmässoafton with Fika & ASI
Valborgsmässoafton is an annual event celebrated not only in Sweden, but all across Europe to welcome the arrival of spring with a late-night bonfire party. The event will be held on April 30 from 7 to 11 p.m. and will be held in the courtyard between the historic Turnblad castle and the contemporary Nelson Cultural Center.
Fika will have several food stands set up in the outdoor courtyard featuring an array of fun party fare. We happened to get a bit of the inside scoop from Fika's chef Michael Fitzgerald, and he told us you can expect to find things like grilled house-made beef sausage, cod corn dogs, and homemade caramel corn. You can also expect a variety of other deep-fried edibles as apparently Chef Fitzgerald doesn't often get to make use of the much coveted fryalator and plans to have a little fun with it.
Fika will also be offering two signature cocktails in order to help get the festivities rolling. Look for the Barrel Aged Brandy Manhattan (Germain-Robin brandy, Vya vermouth, Bittercube cherry bark vanilla bitters, and a cherry) and the French Gimlet (Prairie Organic vodka, St-Germain, and lime).
The event is co-sponsored by Indeed Brewing Co. and they'll be bringing along their Daytripper Pale Ale and the Mydnight Ryder American Black Ale. The folks from Angry Catfish will also be in attendance offering up bicycle safety checks and serving coffee to help get you through the evening.
The event will also feature live local music from acts such as Teenage Moods, Dan Mariska and the Boys Choir, and Zac HB; and an ongoing DJ set from Slipmats Radio.
More information on the event can be found on ASI's Facebook page. Tickets for the event are $7 and can be purchased on ASI's eventbright page.
