By the end of the month, local craft brewer Finnegans will release its beer in cans

Finnegans will be releasing both its classic Irish Amber and Blonde Ale in can form. The new cans could hit stores as early as next week, but the company will officially kick off the can release May 1.

Finnegans was Minnesota's first nonprofit brewery, with 100 percent of its proceeds going toward hunger charities in all five of the company's major markets, which include Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, and Florida. Finnegans also works with the Emergency Food Shelf Network's Harvests for the Hungry program to help distribute locally grown produce to food shelves around the state.

The fancy new cans
The brewery plans to celebrate the launch of the new cans with a craft-beer crafts contest. Finnegans drinkers will be encouraged to create craft projects from the new cans. The winner will receive a year's worth of beer courtesy of Finnegans. Contestants can upload photos of their creations to www.facebook.com/FINNEGANSIrishAmber.

Looks like it's game on for all you craft-beer crafters out there!

So... who is brewing it? Last I knew Summit (current contract brewer for Finnegans) only does bottles.
