|Minnesota grown bounty at Kingfield Farmer's Market|
We've got it on good authority (i.e. the Weather Channel) that the weather will shine this weekend. Now is the time to grab this season by the sprouts and revel in this first season's produce. This Sunday, June 8, Kingfield Farmers Market will kick-off their bake-off competition where fans can cook up favorites from their kitchen and bring them to the market to compete for serious bragging rights and a $50 gift certificate. Market attendees also have the chance to taste the entries and crown a winner. Here's what you need to know before you go:
Bakers are asked to bring in their best rhubarb recipes for sampling. The rules are this: dishes must be baked -- no sauces or salsas. Dishes must arrive by 10:00 a.m. and be able to be served at 60 people bite-sized samples. You'll also want to make certain that it's stable at room temperature. Name it something jazzy and label it well, with all of your ingredients -- especially the local ones (ahem, rhubarb.) The winners will be chosen both by the people of the market and critics. A $50 gift certificate to Linden Hills co-op is available for each prize winner.
Those who would like to sample and judge would be wise to be there right at 10:30 a.m. as samples are first set out.
