|Let's head back to the beach|
The hot summer sun soaking into our pale skin is nudging us toward the beach. What better way could there be to spend the day on the beach with a picnic lunch prepared by Doug Flicker? Today, Sandcastle is open for business.
Bread & Pickle's battle for beer
The menu is filled with concession-stand favorites like popcorn and cheese curds (served with a Sriracha sweet and sour sauce) -- they've even got Bomb Pops! But, this being a spot owned by one of the Twin Cities' most innovative chefs, there's more to sample than summer simplicity.
There is shrimp and octopus ceviche, swimming in a tart citrus bath served with a side of fresh tortilla chips for scoopability.
They also have a collection of hot dogs including the cleverly named Dog Flicker, an all-beef dog topped with kimchee and a fried egg.
|Watermelon salad and ceviche|
There's a refreshing watermelon salad served over greens with pickled radish that will cool you from the inside out. So will a grilled fish taco served over fresh corn tortillas.
The menu has a lot more to explore, including sweet pea falafel, a barbecue pork sandwich, wings, and more.
Drinks include ginger water, horchata, local beers, and kegged wines. Beer and wine needs to be enjoyed in their little fenced off area -- which has a nice, large tent to offer a break from the sun or shelter from a downpour.
Sandcastle is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for grab-and-go items and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the full menu from now an through the rest of the summer. After Labor Day through October 15, they'll be open from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for grab-and-go, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for full menu.
