|Glass-blowing, Indeed Beer, and Pumphouse ice cream this Thursday at ASI|
For the second time this summer, the American Swedish Institute is hosting Cocktails at the Castle. This Thursday starting at 7:00 p.m., the institute will kick off a night of food, drink, and festivities, all is inspired by the Swedish tradition of hyttsill.
Here are the details on all the glass-blowing fun.
Historically glassworks were located at the center of the village and thus doubled as a community gathering place. Hyttsill, which translates literally to "hot shop herring," comes from the practice of cooking food in the glass blowing ovens after they cooled down, usually to feed a crowd and fuel the evening festivities .
The modern version of the party at ASI will include glass blowing demonstrations, food (cooked on the grill, not in the glass ovens) and drink from FIKA, outdoor games, live music, beer from Indeed Brewing, and ice cream from Pumphouse Creamery.
