Local beer, food and music at the first annual North Loop Fest
|The first annual North Loop Fest will be held this August|
If you spend much time in the North Loop, you realize pretty quickly that there's more to it than historic warehouses converted into office buildings and places to go before Twins games -- or after, to numb the pain of those losses. The new first annual North Loop Fest on Saturday, August 10, aims to showcase all that the neighborhood has to offer. It goes down in the parking lot of Cuzzy's, a North Loop fixture notably featured in the 2005 film Factotum.
Fulton Beer, whose brewery and taproom are located just a few blocks away, will host the beer garden, stocked with plenty of Lonely Blonde and Sweet Child of Vine. If you're looking for bar food to go with that beer, Cuzzy's and Darby's will be on hand, too. More refined options from the Loop, whose menu features grilled swordfish and jerk chicken wontons, and steak institution J.D. Hoyt's will also be available.
The festivities will get their soundtrack from FlashMob!, a high-energy local cover band known to read from romance novels at their shows. The band members are prolific bloggers, and it can get a bit, well, weird.
The Fest offers something for the little ones, too. If you come early, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., you'll find face painting, mural artwork, and an ice cream truck that will definitely keep the kids amused for a little while.
Tickets are available at the Downtown Resource Group main office (700 Washington Ave. N.) and are $10.
