34th Avenue and 50th Street: The hottest intersection in south Minneapolis

The revitalized block of 50th Street and 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis

Maybe the neighborhood isn't exactly new, but several recent renovations made to the block located on 50th Street and 34th Avenue in south Minneapolis have forced a new breath of life into an area that has been more than deserving of a little attention. The area has had several established venues for neighborhood residents to get by, but with a recent influx of new business, enhanced business models and general remodels, the neighborhood is turning the once local secret into a dining and entertainment destination worthy of a little recognition.

The recent addition of Town Hall Lanes may just be the ribbon that ties the whole block together, but let's not forget about Al Vento, one of the better spots for Italian food in the Twin Cities and with the very recent remodel of their patio, it's also a great spot for outdoor dining. Last year, 3 Tiers Bakery & Bistro, a little-known south Minneapolis secret, started serving some seriously interesting, internationally fused, tasty plates in addition to their decadent selection of baked goods. This culmination of variety has turned the block into an interesting and unique weekend hangout spot. For example...

3 Tiers Kim Chee Ramen; a personal favorite
Imagine starting your evening off a little early with a quaint Italian dinner at Al Vento. Maybe a pre-dinner cocktail from their bar, a little bruschetta, and an entree. After dinner you could then mosey on over to 3 Tiers for a little dessert and a glass of wine. Their tarts are delicious as are their various other goodies. Once you're done with dessert, you can pick the night back up with beers and bowling next door at Town Hall Lanes. Maybe you'll work your appetite back up which could easily be remedied with some late night bar snacks. Or...

Wake up on a Sunday morning and visit Al Vento for their excellent brunch which comes complete with bottomless mimosas. After that, head over to Town Hall to catch the Twin's game and when you're done, stop by 3 Tiers for a little dinner. Their kimchi ramen packs a delicious punch.

For after bar parties or grilling endeavors, there's also McDonald's Liquors. They have a great selection of craft beers, wine,s and various other spirits. Oxendale's grocery store across the street also carries housemade brats infused with beer from right next door at Town Hall and Surly.

No matter how you mix it up, the 50th Street and 34th Avenue South has got a lot going on, and it's absolutely worth taking a trip to the far south-side to catch a glimpse.

Now if we could do more articles like this that promote our community and less gossip columns (looking at you rupar) that would be perfect.

Too bad I refuse to spend money in Minneapolis, and I know many others who don't either. The trickle down result of bad actions and policies from bad leaders. The business community needs to lead the charge of ousting these bad leaders.

This is a great neighborhood for a long time! Bob's Barber Shop rules! Been cutting my family's hair for years. Very, reasonable prices and years of experience. Locally, owned and not a chain

The revitalized Sweet Berry Kitchen on 34th and 56th  is worth mentioning as well.  Great pastries, good breakfast fare and super friendly staff.

3 Tiers is one of the best under-the-radar restaurants in town. Their banh mi sandwiches and noodle dishes are off the charts.

And they should receive credit for being the first place on the block to serve tap beer.

Awesome neighborhood! My family has been getting incredible haircuts at Bob' s Barber Shop for years. Get a haircut, pop into 3 Tiers for a treat. Where are the best tacos?

Those are the options? Go to these three business for an evening, or go to the same businesses in a different order on the weekend? Maybe I'm being a little harsh, but that's kinda weak.

Barth Anderson - Don't worry, I did mention Oxendale.

My first instinct in reading this was a little jealousy. But then I remembered how lucky we are in South Minneapolis. There are so many little pockets like this all over the city, and they're all just a few minutes away.

Its made from the cheapest instant ramen available. They add a little kimchi to it and there's your house made broth. The 12 bucks you pay for it is nearly all profit. There are no good ramen joints in this city.

Dominguez is 20 steps west of 34th on 50th.

@jason.dorweiler Instant ramen? How stupid are you? 3 Tiers' ramen is quality and delicious. No good ramen joints in Mpls? Please refer back to my second sentence. You clearly haven't been to Moto-i or Masu. Go be an asshole somewhere else.
