|Cocktails from last fall at Eat Street Social|
In the early spring of this year, we wrote about Eat Street Social's
plans to open a sort of pop-up bar-within-a-bar on its patio. The intention was to launch this summer, make the inaugural theme tiki, and introduce a new theme to the bar and the very special specialty drinks each subsequent year. Well, summer has practically come and gone, but Eat Street Social co-head bartender Nick Kosevich
tells Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl on her radio show Off the Menu
he's still planning to go tiki and revealed the name of the new bar: The Torpedo Room.
Here's more on the exact date of the unveiling and how rum punched you can expect to get once they're open.
If you recall our feature on the best Twin Cities bars for spirits
, rum joints were notably absent from the list. The Torpedo Room is aiming to change that, promising a menu of 45 different rums. Forty-five. Try to name more than, like, six kinds of rum right now. I cannot. So suffice to say there will be some fruity, tropical(ish) drinks in the mix, but Kosevich tells Moskowitz-Grumdahl the tiki theme will have heavy Midwestern influence thanks to their commitment to stay seasonal with the ingredients. So think sweet corn cream replacing coconut cream in a fresh take on the Painkiller, a tiki classic that the Torpedo Room is making over for fall. They'll also do some smart, beat-the-heat boozy sno-cones and adult milkshakes.
The Torpedo Room will be open to the public on September 3. Check out Eat Street Social's Facebook page
