A blast from breakfasts long past.
It's time for the back-to-school scramble right now, but General Mills is already thinking ahead towards a spookier part of the year. The company recently announced that it will bring back two long-gone favorites as part of its annual Monster Cereal series during the Halloween season.

Frute Brute and Fruity Yummy Mummy will once again reign over the breakfast table along with current favorites Count Chocula, Boo Berry, and Franken Berry.

Don't quite remember those first two? Considering the fruit-flavored breakfast cereals were both discontinued over 20 years ago, it's not surprising.

Frute Brute (then called Fruit Brute) first made it to the market in 1975, but bit the silver bullet only a few years later in 1982. (Fun fact: If you look carefully, you can spot "cameos" of Fruit Brute in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.)

Fruity Yummy Mummy emerged in 1987 and got put back into the sarcophagus after five years.

Now, you'll be able to sample these cereal classics just as they were back in the day -- or as close as you'll get without bidding on expired cereal on eBay.

"We chose the current flavors of Fruity Yummy Mummy and Frute Brute to be as close as possible to the original flavors while taking into consideration consumers' preferences," says marketing manager Ari Zainudden in a General Mills blog post. "Consumers can get a taste for what these cereals were like when they were originally on shelves."

All five Monster Cereals will be available in stores this fall, with Target stocking the goods in their old-school packages.
