That's right, mothershuckers, it's a big-time bivalve celebration. After a steep learning curve from last year, Meritage's Oysterfest is returning for a third year of oyster slurping, education, brews, and food. Here are the details on this year's event.
Get your ticket-clicking fingers ready: They'll be sold in advance only, and no same-day passes will be issued. This should make crowd management easier than in years past (last year's long lines drew the ire of some attendees). That's not the only change that organizers are making.

They will have a bigger footprint, more room for guests to mingle. They have set the date back a couple of weeks in the hopes of finding cooler weather and more entertainment. The South Side Aces are returning, and they've lined up Communist Daughter to play.
Plus they have a visiting celebrity of sorts. The Naked Cowboy (famous for hanging around Times Square in New York in nothing but his skivvies, a cowboy hat, boots, and a guitar) will be making an appearance. He's got an oyster named after him, and samples will be there from Blue Island Oysters.
They've also added a charity component, with a raffle to benefit Helping Paws, an organization that trains dogs to help people with disabilities, and Pets 4 Patriots, an organization that rescues shelter dogs and matches them with veterans suffering from PTSD. There will be a raffle for $3 a ticket, with a whole bunch of donated items where 100 percent of the proceeds benefit these programs.
In addition to Blue Island, oysters will be flown in with representatives from the West Coast Hama Hama Oyster Farm, and from the East Coast will be Island Creek Oyster farm.
Additionally, there will be classes, a pairing station, and a whole day of ocean-fresh fun.
The day will begin at 2 p.m. outside the restaurant on St. Peter Street in downtown St. Paul. Tickets will be available at varying cost levels (for varying levels of access) beginning at just $25, find them here
