Open for business: Nico's Tacos on Hennepin
Well that was quick.

Less than a month after we announced a new restaurant tenant, Nico's Taco and Tequila Bar, would be moving in to the former Birdhouse space on Hennepin Avenue, the Mexican eatery opened with little pomp or circumstance.

Owners Alex and Jenna Victoria, the husband-and-wife team behind Amore Victoria, did a soft opening of Nico's on Tuesday evening and officially opened to the public today. Here's a sneak peek at what's on the menu.

The in-the-works menu is brief but delivers on all the important stuff that the restaurant's name implies with around 40 different tequilas, a couple specialty margaritas, and eight varieties of tacos including a few with traditional ingredients like tongue, barbacoa (braised beef), and pork tenderloin with potatoes cooked in salsa verde.

Amongst the few non-taco items are shrimp ceviche tostada, cactus salad, guacamole with crisp bacon, elote, and enchiladas. The kitchen will be open until 11:00 p.m. tonight with the bar staying open until 1:00 a.m. Regular hours and a fuller menu to follow soon.

I think I will stay to my Central Ave establishments that are cheaper, and surely as delicious if not better (Maya, Riendo).
