A week of beer, noodles, and togetherness with Sen Yai on Central Ave.
Believe it or not, organic and locally-focused Northeast rice and noodle house Sen Yai Sen Lek (which translates to "big noodle, little noodle") has already been in business for five spicy, fish sauce-filled years. Thai restaurants, they grow up so fast. The sunny spot on Central Avenue is hosting a week-long celebration to mark the occasion, and they're kicking everything off tonight by inviting people to contribute to a new community mural.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. tonight, Sen Yai asks friends, families, and neighbors to come participate in the anniversary kick-off and flex their artistic muscles.

Tuesday continues on with a similar theme -- an artist collaboration, appropriately on the history of Sen Yai Sen Lek -- but this time they're leaving it to the professionals. The restaurant has always served as part noodle house, part neighborhood bar, and part gallery, featuring (mostly local) artists like Nicole Pappas Stanoch, Britta Walstrom, Adam Costello, and Witt Siasoco. On Tuesday, several of these artists will return to talk about their work and their connection to Sen Yai.

On Wednesday, the Roe Family Singers and the Sunny Era will provide live entertainment throughout dinner service. Ten percent of the night's sales will be donated to local charities Second Harvest Heartland and the Edison Community Garden, as if you needed an excuse to order another round of drinks/dumplings.

On Thursday, Sen Yai teams up with Surly Brewing for a very special five-course (one for each year, get it?) beer dinner. Tickets are $50 and reservations are required for this event, but if you're interested you can email GinnyMarieHerman@gmail.com or call 612.388.8855 to secure your spot.

They're also promising more food and drink specials throughout the weekend, if you still haven't had your fill. You can check out their website for further details.
