It's called a happening and it's headed this way

Station to Station is a nomadic "happening" loaded with good eats and great music for all the good little boys and girls of the Twin cities. Organized by artist Doug Aitken, Station to Station connects creative minds from the worlds of art, music, food, literature, and film for a series of events. Local food is front and center with they roll into St. Paul on Thursday, September 12. But that's not all, they're also toting Patti Smith, inspiration from Alice Waters, and yurts! Who doesn't love a yurt?

On-board chef and culinary curator Leif Hedendal has chosen cuisine for these portable, round tent-like structures, inspired by those used by nomads in Central Asia. They will have that spun-gold honey from the Beez Kneez, and prepared foods from the Lynn on Bryant and Icehouse.

The culinary curator of the event is slow-foods advocate and celebrated chef Alice Waters, supporting the Edible Schoolyard Project.

The event runs Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Beyond the food arts, there will be auditory and visual delights as well. The musical lineup includes rock legend and artist Patti Smith, along with No Age, White Mystery, BodyCartography, Eleanor Friedberger, and more.

Nomadic Sculptures will be created by Kenneth Anger, Urs Fischer, Liz Glynn, Carsten Höller, and Ernesto Neto. Art Works by Doug Aitken, Kathryn Andrews, Kate Casanova, Thomas Demand, Fritz Haeg, Meshac Gaba, Lawrence Weiner, and more.

Moving images will be shown from Doug Aitken, Francis Alӱs, Allora & Calzadilla, Kenneth Anger, Dara Birnbaum, Kate Casanova, Bruce Conner, Cheryl Donegan, Fischli & Weiss, William Forsythe, Yayoi Kusama, Nam June Paik, Raymond Pettibon, Nicholas Provost, Kelly Sears, Stephen Shore, Roman Signer, Ryan Trecartin, John Whitney, and John Whitney Jr.

Printed Matter by Doug Aitken, Taylor Ruth Baldwin, Yto Barrada, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Sam Durant, Urs Fischer, Karen Kilimnik, Catherine Opie, Jack Pierson, Raymond Pettibon, Ed Ruscha, Josh Smith, and Ryan Trecartin will be on display.

It is a whole lot of mobile art. The tickets are $25 (plus a small processing fee) and can be purchased here. All ticket proceeds go to the 501(c)(3) Station to Station Cultural Fund, which supports nontraditional programming at nine partner institutions around the country.
