|Hops galore at SurlyFest and New Bohemia's Oktoberfest|
Summer may have officially passed into fall, but the beer events around town are showing no signs of slowing down. This weekend marks one particularly notable celebration: Surly Brewing's 6th annual SurlyFest
. Starting this Saturday at 2:00 p.m., the Brooklyn Center brewing facility will serve as the festival site with live music, beer, and food truck fare by Gai Gai Thai
, AZ Canteen, Smack Shack, and Glam Doll Donuts
. Tickets to the event are sold out, but there's lots more brewing this weekend.
Starting tonight at 5:00 p.m., New Bohemia
hosts its first Munich-style Oktoberfest celebration.
Admission is just $3 but if you upgrade to the $40 beer taster's passport you get a beer mug, t-shirt, and -- here's the big one -- unlimited beer tasting on the day of the event. There will be plenty of food under the tents including traditional brats, rabbit and rattlesnake sausage, Bavarian desserts, soft pretzels, and roasted corn.
celebrates its anniversary all weekend from 11:00 a.m. today until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday. In honor of the event, Northbound will do a full tap takeover, featuring over 12 Northbound beers. They'll also raffle off one Beer 4 Life membership and donate the proceeds to two local non-profits, the Midtown Farmers Market
and the Above and Beyond Children's Foundation
. Northbound will be tapping their brand new Anniversary Ale, a Farmhouse-style Belgian ale.
On Saturday and Sunday, Uptown Tavern and Rooftop
will kick off their Oktoberfest celebration with German music, food, and over 30 Oktoberfest-style beers all on tap through October 6.
Taproom and food truck highlights this weekend include Cajun 2 Geaux at 612Brew
on Saturday, Vellee Deli at Fulton Brewery
tonight, and the Red Pig and Truffle at Harriet Brewing
Also of note, Mankato Brewery releases its Leaf Raker nut brown ale this weekend. Look for it soon at Town Hall Tap
and for sale in four-packs and The Ale Jail.
