Guess which brew reigns supreme?
For all the craft beer we have brewing in our fair state, you may be surprised to find that our collective beer of choice is actually a macro brew.

A team of data collectors from AMP research firm and Blowfish, an Alka-Seltzer-like, effervescent tab touted as a hangover cure, polled over 5,000 beer drinkers from all across America regarding their beer preference, drinking frequency, and general intake to determine the most popular beers by state.

Here are the results.

According to the survey, Blue Moon is our No. 1 beer of choice, with Coors Light and Miller Light following right behind. This is state-wide, remember. Not everyone bellies up to the bar and asks "what's the Fulton seasonal you have on tap?" The map key also mentions that Vikings fans and Twins fans drink the least of any fans in the NFL or MLB, which seems hard to swallow, though, for that matter, so are the prices per pint inside our stadiums.

In non-beer news, apparently our collective favorite mixed drink is the old college standby, rum and coke, and in the "could've guessed that" category our favorite shot is the Jaegerbomb.

Blue Moon was actually the most popular beer nationwide, with PA-produced Yuengling and Sam Adams Boston Lager trending on the east coast. You can look over the full list of stats for yourself here.

Must be a Blue Moon ad. Not sure who's drinking that. Miller Lite, Bud Light are always the top 2 if you have a life and actually get out and do things like go to sporting events, tailgate, camp, go out to bars and have friends. For those that bash these beers my response is why do I want to drink 170 calories, 17 grams carbs and be bloated from it. You can have your liquid bread I will stick with my light beer and low calorie and carbs.

Beer in general is terrible. Why do people willingly drink expensive poison that tastes bitter and impairs your ability to function? Are they that desperate to escape their shitty lives or gain some fake, temporary social skills?

To be fair, there are a ton of different craft beers compared to the number of mass-produced fizzy-yellow-water beers. If I'm drinking good beer I rarely order the same thing several times over in a night. Even if the good-beer-drinkers outnumbered the bad-beer-drinkers (they don't), the selection is too big for there to be one good beer that everybody drinks.

Imagine if there were more third-party voters in America than Democrats or Republicans. They'd still be fractured into Green Party, Libertarian, Constitution, Modern Whig, Citizens...

Yeah, this is obviously a stealth ad.  As domestics go , Yuengling is actually pretty good.  If we could get it here I'd buy it.

Beer flavored water. MGD, Bud, Coors is Rocky Mountain Cool Aid.

Total crap poll as usual. I regret even looking at it. Fool me twice.

aha. obviously a very reliable poll. as in, 'do you prefer blue moon or bud light?'

"The map key also mentions that Vikings fans and Twins fans drink the least of any fans in the NFL or MLB,"

i'm sure this has nothing to do with how much they gouge you for beer at metrodome or target field.

Bullshit Blue Moon is that popular in that many states

For every one person who likes beer, there are nine others who just drink beer.

the general public events that i do would say that miller light or bud light is king. hard to accept but accept it.

Yeah, I know that, I was just making a point that it tastes better than the other 3. I don't mind drinking a domestic if someone offers it to me for free, but I wouldn't spend my own money no one.

Kent, Blue Moon is MillerCOORS. Stay away at all costs. If I had to choose between any of those I'd have a Sprite.

I've worked in a few bars and we sold like 1 Blue Moon to 1 case of MGD, Coors and Miller. Blue Moon is for metro sexual man and chicks that drink to be cool. Blue Moon SUCKS!

Nothing against Blue Moon, but I would have guessed Miller Lite for MN.

Miller Lite just surpassed Mich Golden Light in Minnesota for #1  this is not a real graph.  Friends from around the country also can verify their states.  A random poll does not supersede actual beer sales in the state.

This is based on a polling of preferances. The moose piss known as MGD Light is number 1 in sales.

My first thought was the same as Nicola's. I would guess that they picked some domestics as well as some almost-domestics (blue moon and Sam Adams)and fave that list to the drinkers. If that was the case, I can totally see MN picking blue moon out of the list because non of us will admit to drinking the domestics

Seems like a bias poll. I would be interested in precision rate here.

It would be nice if they shared their data and methodology. The sample size seems inadequate and it isn't clear how respondents were screened and selected. Moreover, what questions were asked and how were they phrased?

"over 5,000 beer drinkers from all across America" is all you need to discredit this survey. We're better than many at supporting craft beer, but a truly representative poll would easily show us as a bud light, miller lite or michelob golden light state.

Surprised it wasn't Pabstsmear with all the hipsters drinking it.

I don't know if it can be defined as a "craft beer" if it is made in large enough quantities (at cheap enough prices) to become the most highly consumed beer in a state, can it?

George Gunderson

Blue Moon simply has about 1/30th of the market share of Bud Light nationwide. ALL BRANDS under the 20th most popular COMBINED don't outsell Anheuser Busch. It makes you wonder how they chose their survey respondents.

Yuck. I refuse to believe I'm surrounded by that many people with such poor taste in beer. Blue moon is awful.

Pete Aplikowski

I'm not buying it. NO way Blue Moon would outsell even Summit, much less the big brands.

Where I grew up they refer to craft beer as 'Cities Shit Beer'.

Despite your love for Grain Belt, you appear to live in a "BUD LIGHT" state, Anthony Halsne! Better start upping your GB intake :-)

Polled based on what they said or were people polled made to choose from a list of beers?

Coors Light isn't the most popular beer in Colorado? Shenanigans.

Your a moron and probably live in the basement and never touched a woman ever! Do you ever think that people who have it all and done it all get bored and want a break from the same boring everyday life. Drinking does that and relaxes us.
