Looking to get an early jump on your weekend buzz?
Calhoun Square's 24th annual Coffee Festival is going on this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature samples from 35 coffee vendors, a barista competition, and even a couple of coffee-infused beers for those who need a little downer after all the uppers.
Here are more details on the Uptown event.
You can attend as a browser for free, but why not spend $10 for the commemorative mug? It gets you access to all the samples (which is kind of the point of a coffee festival, eh?) and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the specially designed ceramic cups will go to benefit House of Charity
, a non-profit that provides food and housing to those in need. Mugs are already available for purchase at Kitchen Window
if you want to beat the lines on the day of the event, but they will be for sale at the door as well.
Starting at 1 p.m., Bull Run Coffee
will host the first-ever Barista Challenge at the Coffee Fest. The Iron Chef/Iron Fork-like competition will pit the top local baristas against each other in mini-battles of speed, agility, taste, and foam design.
Kitchen Window's new French Quarter Cafe inside their cooking school will be open all throughout the festival. Hot, sugary beignets and Cafe du Monde Coffee will be for sale -- if, like us, you're craving New Orleans-famous foods from watching the current season of Top Chef
