Celebrate Repeal Day in style

It was the day when the rivers ran foamy and gin was liberated from bathtubs: Repeal Day. Marking the end of Prohibition, the grandaddy of all bad ideas, has since become an annual celebration in craft cocktail circles. This year Jesse Held and his merry band of drink mixing masters at Parlour will be donning their best vests and celebrating the right to lawfully imbibe.

Thursday, December 5 will mark the day in 1933 when the repeal of Prohibition was accomplished with the Twenty-first Amendment to the Constitution. "It's like Independence Day for bartenders," Parlour's Jesse Held said. "With this being the 80th anniversary of Repeal Day, and since Parlour reeks of that era and was designed with the Jazz Age in mind, it made sense to do a little tip of the cap to 1933."

Parlour will be pulling out all the stops with a special event. Guests will be treated to special dishes to graze upon from the upstairs kitchen at Borough. Parlour will be serving 10 to 12 specially selected cocktails of the day, done in elegant, updated Parlour style. Tickets to the event will net guests two specialty craft cocktails, a swank stuffed gift bag, and a vintage cocktail glass. They will also have samples of select liquors and classic cocktail recipes to share. (We'll get you primed with a Manhattan right here).

Music will include some electro-jazz, a mash up of swing and ragtime with a modern day twist. There will also be some super sneaky, special entertainment (details have yet to be announced.) Tickets are $50 and available for purchase here.

What does Repeal Day really mean to bartenders and those who legally imbibe? "Well, it is the most important day of the year," Held said solemnly.

Doors will peel open at 8 p.m. and won't close until 1 a.m.
