Did you hear about that Time Magazine
article? The one that named the so-called "Gods of Food"? While many of those listed were undoubtedly highly influential chefs, not one
of the chefs was female.
(There were four women on the list of 13 "gods," but not one was a chef.) It was an infuriating snub for those who know and love great food, and locally, two of the most outraged seemed to be Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl and Stephanie March of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine
Coincidentally, the two had already scheduled a panel discussion with successful women in the food industry, the next installment in their Tastemakers series. We spoke with Stephanie March, senior editor of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, about what attendees can expect and exactly why she was so cheesed off by the TIME Magazine article.

The Tastemakers event will be held Tuesday, December 3 at the Ritz Theater.

Fund; cookbook author, blogger, and pastry chef Zoë François, and Jodi
Ohlsen Read of Shepard's Way Cheese. Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl will moderate.
Berglund has created an entire brewery around the idea that a business can absolutely make the world a better place. Finnegans is a non profit that Berglund created to fund her real passion, which is giving back to the community.
Zoë François has created a cookbook empire along with her partner Jeff Hertzberg through their Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day
concept. She was also the one-time pastry chef for Steven Brown at Tilia (among other lauded kitchens) and currently blogs about all her pastry baking adventures at ZoeBakes.com.
cheesemaker Jodi Ohlsen doesn't just create their creamy sheep's milk cheese; she's also tasked with promoting their product. The farm brings tasty products to farmer's markets, and has also developed a cheese CSA, for those interested in exploring a variety of different cheeses and supporting the farm on a regular basis.
We asked March how they selected the women on the panel. "We chose women who were part of the industry in different ways," she said. "They're an array of industry movers and shakers."
Which gets us to why she was so infuriated
by the Time Magazine
article. "Because we're part of the media," she said. "We try to cover the restaurant scene in an equitable way. What's important is that we are surrounded by such vital, vibrant, brilliant, fantastic, spectacular women -- and then for [TIME Magazine
] to have complete and utter blindness to them and to say 'Well, we don't actually make the call,' is total bullshit!"
This Tastemakers panel discussion highlighting the role of women in the food industry will be a heated one -- and not to be missed. The discussion begins at 6 pm. Tickets (available here
