|An inside view when the restaurant was Kikugawa|
The owners of Wilde Roast Cafe have partnered with Brian Gilligan to take over the neighboring restaurant space, formerly Kikugawa Sushi. The dormant space will be reborn and christened with the marathon moniker Mattie St. Clair's House of Spirits on Main Street. Among other things, they've already come up with a nickname, Mattie's on Main.
The new spot was named for Mattie St. Clair, a purported madame who ran a brothel in the area. The owners announced on their website
that the restaurant will be a modern-day saloon sporting an all-seasons patio and stage for live music.
Renovations will begin next month, and the owners hope to be open for business in the spring. They've tapped Smart Associates to design the space. Known for eye-catching work, Smart Associates also designed the last incarnation of Heidi's.
In keeping with the modern saloon vibe, the goal is to create a comfortable, neighborhood hangout with a full bar and several local beers on tap. The menu will consist of upscale pub grub, including adult shakes. Wilde Roast pastry chef Jeff Christianson's desserts will also be featured.
