|The lights are on and the doors are open|
Bocadillo fans take note: The second location of Sonora Grill is now open for business. What began as a stand inside the Midtown Global Market has now moved into a second location, farther down Lake Street -- complete with roomier digs and a full bar.
|The caramelos taste just as nice when paired with tequila|
The dishes fans have come to know and love remain, including ridiculously affordable caramelos for $3.75, bocadillos (Spanish and South American-style sandwiches), and those meat-tastic Sonoran hot dogs.
In addition to these standards, diners will find a wide selection of platos, small plates, and entree-sized dishes that allow chef owners Alejandro Castillon and Conrado Paredes to explore their creativity. The two were college friends in Sonora, Mexico, and they've spent time at Solera (when it was a Tim McKee restaurant) and Barrio.
|Prawns with avocado, mint, and pancetta|
A pair of spooning prawns comes wrapped in a blanket of crispy pancetta atop a bed of avocado sauce for $9. A wedge salad comes topped with creamy dressing, little red tomatoes, and a sliced avocado for $9.
|A meaty selection of pinchos|
The specialty cocktails are mostly tequila-based, but don't expect any blended margarita mixes. These adult sippers are a balance of flavors ranging from a smokey mezcal to an herbaceous violetta. They have a selection of beer and wine to pair beautifully with a plate of pinchos for $15. These skewered snacks come with a variety of meats, such as tender chicken, beef, and -- our favorite -- battered shrimp swathed in Buffalo-seasoned breading.
|Empanadas for your face|
The empanadas, $9, are made with crispy, scratch-made dough and rich, subtly seasoned beef, and come served with a pesto-like sauce for swiping. Larger entrees include ribs with roasted tomatillos for $15 and a Fresh Air pork tenderloin with Romesco for $16.
Sonora Grill is open every day from 10:30 a.m. to midnight.
